5 Reasons We Love a Weekend Trip to Walt Disney World

By Melissa Fegely

When planning a trip to Walt Disney World, many guests chose to stay for a week, or sometimes even longer. Guests can plan days of fun in the parks and then allocate time for relaxing by the pool. If you need that Disney fix and can’t plan a long trip, it’s just as much fun to take a quick weekend trip. While this kind of vacation doesn’t allow for much rest and relaxation at the pool, it still can include all of the magic and excitement of a full-blown visit to Walt Disney World. Here are some of the excellent reasons why I love a weekend trip to Walt Disney World.

1.     There is always a party going on.

Whether you’re visiting Walt Disney World for a quick trip in the spring, summer, winter, or fall, there is always something festive in the air. Plan a weekend trip in the spring, and you have a good chance of being there during the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival gears up in late summer and continues until late fall. If you’re planning a trip in September or October, check out Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom. A weekend escape during the holiday season allows you to experience Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM Holiday Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Holidays Around the World celebrations at Epcot. In addition, Walt Disney World has just announced the Epcot International Festival of the Arts if you are visiting in January and February. No matter how long you are able to visit, there is always something to celebrate.

2.     Transportation.

If you’re visiting Walt Disney World for the weekend, time is very valuable, and you don’t want to waste a minute of time you could be in the parks. Luckily, Walt Disney World makes it very easy to get around. Take advantage of the park buses, boats, and monorail to get to and from the parks and resorts. If your plans involve flying, use Disney’s Magical Express to pick you up from the Orlando International Airport and enjoy a comfortable ride to your resort.  Let this service take care of your luggage too. When it’s time to come home, check your luggage and get your airline boarding pass right at your onsite Disney resort’s Airline Check-In desk. The Magical Express will take you back to the Orlando International Airport as well.

3.     Enjoy your favorites.

When my family visits Walt Disney World for a week-long trip, we always try to do as many attractions, rides, and shows as possible, which results in everyone needing a break by midweek.  For a shorter, weekend visit, the pressure is off to do absolutely everything, and we can just enjoy a special restaurant, jump on our favorite attractions, and make time for a loved character meet and greet.

4.     An escape from the real world.

Everyone needs a little break from reality, and a weekend in Walt Disney World makes this possible. From the time you board Disney’s Magical Express and drive through the main gates of Walt Disney World, you become wrapped in the Disney Bubble. It’s very easy to forget about the outside world when you’re having a Mickey bar for lunch and dining with princesses for dinner, and Walt Disney World transportation is waiting to whisk you to a world-class fireworks spectacular for dessert. Walt Disney World excels in making things as convenient as possible for guests.

5.     Get that Disney fix.

Fans of Walt Disney World know this feeling well – the desire to hear the magical music from the parks, enjoy the intoxicating scents of cotton candy and fresh popcorn on Main Street USA, and experience those classic rides that make you smile every time. A weekend trip to Walt Disney World is just enough to cure that craving and keep a fan happy until the next big trip.

About Melissa Fegely

I have been a professional writer for over 18 years with degrees in Biology and English. I am a lifelong Disney fan and a Disney Vacation Club member of over nine years. Having visited Walt Disney World several times growing up, I really caught the Disney bug after many trips with my husband. Now I am happily addicted to taking our son to Walt Disney World as often as possible and watching him experience the magic and Mickey Bars as he grows up. Traveling to Walt Disney World twice a year, I enjoy attending the Flower and Garden festival held in the spring and strolling around the World Showcase, as well as exploring all of the hidden gems that all four parks have to offer. I love helping my family and friends plan their next Disney trips based on my experiences. I also enjoy reading, swimming, traveling, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I grew up in Southwestern Pennsylvania, attended Shippensburg University, and current live in suburban Philadelphia with my husband, son, and two cats.
